K-pop and Graphic Design: The Influence of NewJeans' Physical records on Collectorship in Mexico.

Abstract

K-pop has become a global phenomenon, with graphic design playing a key role in the marketing and visual strategy of physical albums. This study analyzes the case of the South Korean group NewJeans and how its visual approach has influenced collecting culture in Mexico, promoting social interaction, cultural expansion, and local business growth. A qualitative approach was used to examine album covers, packaging, and photocards, complemented by a literature review and a comparative analysis with the group TWICE. Results show that NewJeans’ nostalgic and innovative design featuring Y2K aesthetics and unique packaging created a strong emotional connection with Mexican audiences, increasing both demand and perceived value. It is concluded that graphic design is not merely a visual aid, but a fundamental pillar for commercial and cultural success in K-pop, especially in markets like Mexico, where both the product and the collective experience are highly valued.

Joryuhem Roberto Bautista Escalona, a graduate of the Autonomous University of the State of Hidalgo (UAEH), holds a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design. He has a solid academic background and a foundation in visual and creative principles applied to the digital field.
Joryuhem has established himself as an expert in social media management and video editing. This combination of skills allows him to not only understand social media trends but also understand the visual and, above all, narrative essence. He also effectively executes his skills to capture the public's attention. He is passionate about strategic content creation, aiming to increase the growth and exposure of various brands in the digital environment.
